Summer Housing

Summer housing is available for ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ students who are taking on-campus summer classes, are working an on-campus job or research, or are unable to travel home for the summer months.  

Below is information on how to apply and the summer housing policies and processes. 

How to Apply for Summer housing

The summer housing application will be available in your on  March 1, 2025. The application will be listed under Apps & Forms. The deadline to apply for summer housing is April 13, 2025.

  • Summer housing applications received after April 13 will be subject to space availability
  • Summer housing is available to enrolled Hope students who are taking on-campus summer classes, are working an on-campus job or research, or are unable to travel home for the summer months
  • Students can only apply for the dates they are required to be on-campus
  • Summer housing applications are subject to review and verification of the information provided
  • Students will receive information about their summer housing assignment and transitional housing on Friday, April 25

policies and process

  • All ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ policies in effect during the school year are also in effect during the summer months.
  • Summer housing is based on double occupancy. This includes transitional housing.
  • Students with approved housing accommodations will have their accommodation met for summer housing as well. 
  • Students will receive instructions for check-in and check-out when they receive their housing assignment. 
  • Students taking a May Term only or are working an on-campus job/research for the month of May only will be housed in a residence hall. Students will be able to  purchase meals as needed from the dining hall for lunch and dinner (see dining rates below)
  • To accommodate for cleaning and turnover from the academic year to summer housing, students will be asked to live in a transitional housing location during the weeks of May 5–16 and again August 4–15 when we transition to fall semester housing (dates subject to change).
  • Student athletes who are participating in postseason play will move from their academic year housing into transitional housing in Kollen Hall on Monday, May 5, and remain until their postseason is complete. Your coach will notify the housing office regarding the housing dates needed based on your postseason schedule. Athletes who participate in postseason play do not need to submit a remain late request.

Spring to Summer Transitional Housing

For students who are planning to live on-campus for the summer, you will live in transitional housing in Kollen Hall from Monday, May 5, through Friday, May 16. This is necessary to provide Physical Plant the time to clean and prepare our summer housing. Once your summer housing unit is cleaned we will contact you with instructions to move into your summer housing assignment. This could be earlier than Friday, May 16, but expect to be in Kollen Hall for that entire time. 

Moving to your Summer Housing Assignment

For students in Transitional housing

Once your permanent summer housing residence is clean, we will contact you with instructions for moving. This email will contain the necessary information to access your summer housing unit, as well as links to the Summer Check-In Form, the Room/Cottage/Apartment Condition Form, and the Summer Housing Agreement. Within a few days of your arrival, your summer RA will meet with you to discuss living expectations. They will help you agree to the cleaning process, item sharing, communication expectations, etc.

For students not in transitional housing

When moving into housing after Friday, May 16, there are a few things you will need to know:

  • The code for your permanent summer housing will be in your account 24 hours prior to your arrival on campus. We will assume that you are moving in on the day you have registered to begin your summer housing.
  • You will need to complete a Summer Check-In Form within 24 hours of moving into your summer housing. This form will be emailed to you.
  • Most of the people living in your cottage or apartment will be moving in around the same time. With in a few days of your arrival, your summer RA will reach out. They will help you agree to the cleaning process, item sharing, communication expectations, etc.

Moving Out of Summer Housing

The week prior to your contract end date, you will be e-mailed checkout information. This communication will outline your check out process, cleaning expectations, and damage assessment and billing.  

Fall Transitional Housing

For students who have applied for summer housing until the start of the fall semester, you will live in transitional housing in Kollen Hall from Monday, August 4, through Friday, August 15. This is necessary to provide Physical Plant the time to clean and prepare our academic year housing. Once your academic year housing assignment is cleaned we will contact you with instructions to move into your permanent housing assignment. This could be earlier than Friday, August 15, but expect to be in Kollen Hall for that entire time.

Summer housing Costs and Billing

The 2025 summer housing rate will be posted in February 2025. The 2024 summer housing cost was $27 per day ($189 per week), as an example.  You will receive your summer housing bill the second week of May, with the rates found here. If your summer housing dates are different from what you originally applied for, please email housing@hope.edu immediately. 

For students who are working an on-campus job or research, you are eligible to receive a housing credit of 50% off your summer housing cost. You will be charged 100% of your summer housing costs, and once the Business Services verifies your on-campus employment, they will apply the 50% housing credit to your account (this typically happens after your first summer paycheck). 

summer Board RATES

Summer board rates for summer 2025 will be posted in Feburary 2025. Pricing listed below was for summer 2024.

Students will be able to purchase lunch and dinner from Phelps Hall during their open hours at a reduced rate for the summer months. Dining Dollars, credit or debit are accepted forms of payment during the summer months.

  • Lunch: $8 per meal (subject to change for summer 2025)
  • Dinner: $9.50 per meal (subject to change for summer 2025)

May Term Dining Options 

  • May 5–May 16: Phelps Dining will be open Monday–Friday for lunch and dinner
  • May 19–23 and May 27–30: Kletz Market will be open for lunch only

Students will be responsible for meals outside of these hours. Kollen Hall has a community kitchen that can be used for simply meal preparation during the times the dining hall is not open.
