Courses
Choose from a variety of courses in mathematics and statistics.
During the first two years, students often take courses from our calculus sequence, consisting of Math 125, 126, 131, 132, 233, 245 and 270, as well as courses chosen from our statistics offerings including Math 115, 215 and 219.
For students planning to major in mathematics, Math 280 (Bridge to Higher Mathematics) is taken in the second year, since it is a prerequisite for many of our upper level mathematics courses.
Mathematics majors then move on to upper level courses in a variety of topics including:
- Algebra
- Real and complex analysis
- Geometry
- Statistics
- Numerical analysis
- Mathematical biology
- Combinatorics
- Linear algebra
- Advanced differential equations
Many programs in the social sciences require or recommend Math 210 (Introductory Statistics).
Students whose major doesn't require a specific mathematics course may elect to take an interdisciplinary GEMS course with a mathematics focus to fulfill the mathematics general education MA requirement (GEMS 100 or 105).
