The annual Juried Student Art Show is being shown in the gallery of the De Pree Art Center through Sunday, Nov. 23.
The public is invited to the exhibition, curator鈥檚 talk and reception. Admission is free.
The competitive exhibition, open to all students at Hope, is an annual fixture in the De Pree gallery. Each year, the department of art and art history invites a recognized artist or curator to judge the student work.
This year鈥檚 guest juror, Paul Amenta, is the founder and curator of SiTE:LAB in Grand Rapids, creating pop-up installations in unique architectural environments. His curatorial work with SiTE:Lab earned the 鈥渘omadic鈥 arts organization 鈥淥utstanding Venue Juried Award鈥 given out by ArtPrize.
Amenta is a prominent figure in the West Michigan art scene, often serving multiple roles within his projects from curator and organizer to copywriter and public relations. In addition, he is also an assistant professor at Kendall College of Art & Design and draws from his background in sculpture and exhibitions, such as the Marvelli Gallery in New York and the Tokyo National University of Fine Art & Music in Tokyo, Japan.
He graduated from School of Visual Arts in New York City with an MFA in fine arts, and from Grand Valley State University with a BFA in sculpture and printmaking.
