The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine at 熊猫在线视频 will feature the address "Common Hand Injuries in Sports - Recognition and Management" by Dr. Richard M. Howell on Monday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Howell is a physician specialized in orthopaedic surgery with Shoreline Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic PLC of Holland, where he has been on staff since 2006. He is also on the active staff of both Holland Hospital and Zeeland Community Hospital.
Howell graduated with distinction from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and received his M.D. from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit in 1992, and then a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1993.
Upon completing his fellowship, he became an instructor in both the hand fellowship program and the orthopaedic residency program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. From 1997 until 2006, he practiced as an orthopaedic hand surgeon on the staff of Spectrum Orthopaedics in Canton, Ohio.
Howell is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications for Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine is designed for health care professionals with an interest in physically active patients, and is intended for students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-sponsored by Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan, Shoreline Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic, Holland Hospital Rehabilitation Services, The Bone and Joint Center, and the college.
Howell's presentation is the fourth of five lectures scheduled through the series for the 2010-11 school year. The final address will be "Hip Injuries in Athletics" by Dr. Carl Wierks of The Holland Bone and JointCenter on Monday, April 11.
