The gallery of the De Pree Art Center at 熊猫在线视频 will host "The Tangible Intangibles: Lyman Jellema and the Face, Figure and Form" from Friday, July 11, through Friday, Aug. 8.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The exhibition will feature 30 drawings, watercolors and oil paintings by Holland native Lyman Jellema. From the early sketches from life drawings classes to more experimental landscapes, his journey from student to artist is explored.
In addition, the works demonstrate the dominant art-education practices followed through the 19th and the mid-20th centuries. Through schooling and beyond, Jellema described his approach to art as striving to express the "tangible intangibles" - the human warmth - of those he captured on paper and canvas.
Jellema was born in Holland in 1907 and graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1925. During his lifetime, Jellema attended such art schools as the Art Institute of Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was drafted during World War II and spent more than 20 years as an art educator in upstate New York. He died in 1995.
A reception with the Jellema family will be held at the gallery on Monday, July 14,from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
