Off-Campus Study
Studying in another part of the world or country can be a valuable part of your academic journey, and an instrumental experience in further understanding the past.
Some things to consider as a history major as you plan your off-campus study experience:
- You can study off campus any semester and still complete your history requirements successfully.
- Keep in mind you must complete HIST 495 during your senior year, or, in extraordinary circumstances, the spring of junior year.
- HIST 140, HIST 141 and HIST 495 must be taken on Hope鈥檚 campus.
- Most history courses from foreign universities can be transferred back to Hope, if not as an equivalent history course, as HIST 295, or with a waiver form in the case of a 300-level course. We encourage you to take classes related to the country or region of interest while at Hope to prepare for your study abroad experience. Once abroad, you can take courses we do not offer at Hope.
- It is important to meet with your academic advisor regarding courses you plan on taking off-campus and how this fits within your academic plan, particularly credits counting toward your major (and provide appropriate course descriptions).
鈥淪tudying abroad has given me the opportunity to explore historical locations and experience history as only one can while viewing it with their own eyes.鈥
