Assessment Committee

The Student Congress Assessment Committee is a group of students who, in partnership with the Frost Center for Data and Research, evaluate the ways that ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ’s co-curricular structures and services serve students. Each student’s experience informs the assessment of each service and strengthens the continuous improvement of Hope College.

MISSION

Student Congress Assessment Committee serves to evaluate the ways that ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ’s co-curricular structures and services serve students. The Assessment Committee, Frost Center for Data and Research, and Student Congress task forces will partner with various departments to assess ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ’s structures and services to determine how effectively they are serving all students at ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ. The Assessment Committee will utlize a transparent and sustainable structure to make ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ an institution that proactively prevents discrimination or bias on the basis of race; color; national origin; sex; disability; age; cultural identity; ethnicity; nationality; citizenship; family educational history; political or religious affiliation; sexual orientation; gender identity and expression; marital, family, social, or economic status.

DESIRED OUTCOMES OF ASSESSMENT

These assessments will focus on various aspects of said department, examining things such as student involvement in decision making, which students on campus are being served, and the accessibility of the department to all students.

WHO IS INVOLVED?
  • Chief of Assessment: Serve as liaison between department leads and Student Congress members, oversee the distribution of surveys at the beginning of each semester, distribute Frost Research Center data and analysis to assessment committee, oversee completion and approval of assessment report
  • Vice Chief of Assessment: Assist Chief of Assessment in duties as well as assisting the Assessment Committee in evaluating case data, oversee writing of assessment report and recommendations
  • Assessment Committee: Analyze survey data, perform interviews, collect and review departmental documents, write assessment report and recommendations
  • Department Leads: Communicate with Chief of Assessment and assessment committee as they collect data, review assessment report and recommendations once completed, lead department’s reformative action as needed in preparation for next assessment cycle
  • Students: Complete the surveys to offer data on their student experience, insight and understanding of how the assessed services impact them.
WHO IS BEING ASSESSED?Ìý

The Assessment Committee will administer the assessment of on-campus co-curricular structures in accordance with the following schedule: 

Year A

  • Fall: The Boerigter Center for Calling and Career, Campus Ministries, and Dining Services. 
  • Spring: Campus Safety, Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and the Office of Equity and Compliance.

Year B

  • Fall: Admissions, the Health Center, and Counseling and Psychological Services. 
  • Spring: The Registrar, Disability and Accessibility Resources, and Residential Life and Housing.

Year C

  • Fall: Orientation Programs (Orientation/Step2Success/Summer Bridge), Physical Plant, and Van Wylen Library.
  • Spring: Advising, the Office of Financial Aid, and Off-Campus Study Programs

Every three years, these lists will be reviewed by the Student Congress Executive Board in the Spring of Year C in order to reflect the structure of the College. 

This schedule was last revised on April 11, 2024, switching the semesters of Campus Ministries and Campus Safety, as well as Counseling and Psychological Services with the Registrar.
