Brian Yurk has been teaching in the Department of Mathematics at Hope since 2009. He teaches a variety of courses, including courses in the Calculus sequence and applied mathematics courses like Mathematical Biology and Numerical Analysis.

Dr. Yurk is the advisor of 熊猫在线视频鈥檚 chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society.

His research is focused on applying mathematics to solve problems in ecology and geology. Undergraduate students in his research group approach problems using a variety of techniques, including field work, analysis of remotely sensed data (satellite and drone imagery), and mathematical and statistical modeling.

Dr. Yurk鈥檚 field areas include the cloud forest of Monteverde, Costa Rica, where he works with K. Greg Murray of Hope鈥檚 Department of Biology, and the sand dune complexes located along the southeastern shore of Lake Michigan. Dr. Yurk is part of the Hope College Dune Group, which includes several members of the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences.
