education
- M.A., higher education, Geneva College, 2005
- B.A., business and economics, Trinity Christian College, 2000
professional experience
For five years, Shannon served as the coordinator of the first year experience at Trinity Christian College, building and implementing a program to assist students in their transition into higher education. This for-credit course was required of all incoming first-year students. That experience helped her to learn about program and course development, supervision of staff and students, and strengths assessments. Shannon's skills have transfered to her role assisting students in career planning.
She also worked as the freshman and sophomore programs coordinator at the University of Minnesota. This opportunity allowed Shannon to continue her work with students in transition. While she was there, she was able to learn more about the different processes at much larger institutions.
awards and recognition
Shannon has presented at the National Conference of the First Year Experience. She partnered with faculty at Geneva College to compare and contrast two different first-year student initiatives. Through this experience, she learned to highlight success and identify necessary areas of growth within program-building processes for other institutions.
why do you love hope?
She loves that there isn't a standard formula for success at Hope. Every student and employee can find a path, build a community and write their own story for success on their own.
outside of hope
Shannon is the mom of four adventurous children between the ages of 5 and 10. She is also the wife of a kind-hearted and family-driven man, to whom she has been married for over 14 years. In her spare time, she loves to run, spend time with family and friends, and drink coffee like it's her job.
